Just for peace of mind, I called American Airlines to confirm I have all the correct documentation to get on the plane and no chance of quarantine, etc, They did a call back, because of long waits. It took about an hour which was within their estimate on the message. I had also tried Iberia (I have Iberia flight booked through AA), they had some message saying they are experiencing heavy volume, call back later and they hung up! Luckily AA did call back. It's all good. Shortly I'll be filling out my SPTH form (Spanish Travel Health form, which is to be completed within 48 hrs of trip).

Thanks, MFNYC. I’m in Chelsea. The only time I did a a PCR test, it took 3 days. We went to the CityMD on 23rd St.

As it turns out, I may not need a test since we are going first to Croatia and then on to Italy, and so far, Croatia hasn’t changed its requirements, but I want to be prepared.

Traveling from the US, you’ll need either a negative PCR or antigen test 72 hours before arrival in Italy. Don’t forget to account for the time difference!

Just out of curiosity did the new Italian COVID test requirements take effect immediately upon announcement or was there a delay on implementation?

If you want to see what the airlines use to check that passengers have the right documentation, go to:
https://www.iata.org/en/publications/timatic/

It even allows you to add a transit country.

How long until the high rates of vaccination put an end to the travel embargos? We could all use a bit of xmas cheer. Fingers crossed for December.

Update for my fellow NYCers, LabQ turned around my PCR results in 14 hours. When I had the test they said it should take between 24 and 36 hours. I didn’t need the test, but thought it’s a good idea before stepping foot in airport and on plane. We leave tonight.

fYI LabQ is free at the tents, no ID or insurance needed.

Thank you. We leave on an 8 PM flight on a Wednesday. If we get our tests Monday evening is that too soon? I hear 48 hours before arrival and then I hear 72. Delta says we can go with an antigen test, which I think is rapid but others say PCR. any thoughts on timing and which test? Thanks again.

You should be okay with that time frame. The current requirements allow for PCR and antigen tests 72 hours prior to arrival. Of course, depending when you are going, these requirements might change, so keep checking.

MFNYC - Did you make it? I hope so! Enjoy your trip.

I went for a dry run test mid week last week. I had the rapid antigen tests plus the PCR test. The rapid antigen was back in 15 minutes. The PCR test took like, 2 to 3 days. The doctor said "When you are ready, come to us and do both again" (within 72 hours of arrival.) The rapid will be back immediately, you can carry the report with you to the airport and the PCR will be there when you get to Italy. Progol - love the pink highlighter up there!

We arrived in Jerez yesterday. No problems. I think only 1 other couple at our hotel. Streets quiet in afternoon (siesta time). Picked up in evening but not mobbed. Seems like mostly locals. This town is lovely, and food great. Heading to Cadiz later. Weather is perfect.

I’ll admit, the airport/plane stressed me out. More crowded than I imagined. Not much distancing on lines but gate area was ok. Wore good N95 mask most of the time.

If you want to walk on some gorgeous beaches and eat wonderful seafood, go to Bar Antonio, in Zahara de los Atunes, and El Campero in Barbate, both near each other, about an hour's drive east of Cadiz. In Cadiz I liked the bar at El Faro.

I've just given up..supposed to go to Patagonia at the end of the year but that seems iffy now. And hope to return to that area of Spain in early March. All so depressing right now, though. That's why I rarely come on this site for the time being.

The Italian Ministry website says 48 hours in advance fir the covid testing. Delta says 72 for Italy. I think I just might do it twice but very inconsistent info. Anyone experienced this?
