A Global Eurail Youthpass costs about $60 a day or about 40 euros an unlimited day of trains in all of Europe except the U.K. (and those who buy a Eurail Youthpass get 50% off of any BritRail Youthpass I believe) - so for 40 euros the ability to hop on any train anytime in most countries is IMO a great deal if taking 10 longish train trips over a few-month period.

Even adding the 10 euros on in Italy it is still a bargain for full fare tickets if you want to decide to take whatever trains you want after you get to a city rather than booking in stone weeks in advance for not that much a discount.
