BA Concorde Which side?

Does it matter if you are on the north side or south side of the plane for a JFK-LHR flight on the Concorde? Any tips for flying the Concorde would be appreciated. Thanks.

101 days until the final flight. The site's FAQs don't include anything about seating.

I was under the impression that you'd be moving so fast there'd be nothing to see...and now I'll never get the chance to find out!

Yes, until September or October, I'm not sure of the exact date for the last flight.

Never been privileged enough to fly the Concorde but assuming it takes the same landing flight path into LHR as the other jets, sit on the righthand side of the plane (CD) rows. If the skys are clear or the clouds are not low, you will see the Millenium Dome, Tower Bridge, London Eye, and Big Ben from the right hand side of the plane. If you have a keen eye and know the layout of other northbank landmarks in London, you'll be able to spot them too.

The instrument approaches into LHR are such that they allow you to see the sights from either side of the aircraft. LHR's runways are 9-27 (east-west) and the approaches begin from Biggin VOR which is due south of Heathrow and do an almost 210 degree turn to final. Good Luck, I have always seen the sights, you can even see the Parliament if you know what you are looking for. For JFK, the runways change too often for me to give good advice.

RJames - it probably doesn't matter. Though I have not flown the Concorde, my friend has on numerous occasions. He states that unless you sit in the first few rows you will see nothing but the sky unless the plane is banking sharply, because the large delta wings obscure all views of the ground.

CharlieB offers good advice and I would agree. However, the seats in the front 7 or 8 rows are highly sought after, not only because they offer a slightly better view, but also due to the fact that they are considered, by some, to the be the "first class" of Concorde. Put it this way, you wouldn't find a celebrity or leading model at the back.

The main attraction of the Concorde is/has been speed.Not comfort and not sights.Except for the curvature of the earth.The feeling the physical sensations will overwhelm you.The ascent is 45 minutes,cruising the sight of the clouds is unforgettable.Yet oh so brief, 2 hours.The descent, 45 minutes of thinking, "its over"!! But do try to get a seat in rows 1 thru 10.

It is true that the large wing obstructs the view from about the 10th row back. However, the windows on Concorde are extremely small compared to other planes, so you don't see a whole lot, anyway. It's said that you can see the curvature of the earth, but in my experience you need either extraordinary eyesight or a fair bit of imagination to actually do it.

And while it's true that the forward rows are considered more elite, the rear cabin will be more comfortable if the flight isn't full, because you're more likely to have an empty seat next to you. While Concorde is fast and thrilling, it is not especially comfortable: the seats are only an inch or two wider than an economy seat, and the legroom is nowhere near as great as even a (trans-oceanic) business class seat.

Ah, but did you ever have a relative get lost on a Concorde? My sister disappeared mid-flight, while my BIL slept. Upon waking he waited 45 minutes for her to return, to no avail. He and an attendant searched this small plane, everywhere. No sister! Later she strolled back from the cockpit where she'd spent the flight in the 4th seat. This was their 20th something flight on Concore, so AF accorded her a small privilege. My BIL is normally the coolest, but this time he sweated a bit!
