I have stayed at the Green Gables on Abingdon Road, http://www.oxfordcity.co.uk/accom/greengables/, which I think would meet your criteria. It is a bit of a hike (~ 1 mile) from Oxford centre, but there is bus service right outside the door. You can also do a pleasant walk into town along the river.

As a woman travelling alone, I always like to be in the city centre, so I don't have travelling to do after dinner. My choice would have to be the Bath Place hotel, which is right in the middle of town/campus and next to my favorite pub in Oxford, the Turf Tavern.

ateabag - since you will be trying to catch buses down to Fairford/Lechlade and the train to Edinburgh, you should stay in the city center so you are not miles from Gloucester Green coach station and the train station. The Bath Place would be a good choice - or the Randolph Hotel if you are in for a splurge.
