Avoiding Naples in late Sept
Hi
I don't know if most people already know this, but a helpful fellow Fodorite just let me know that there will be NATO meeting in Naples
Sept 25-27 (this was scheduled before this week) and according to a US State Dept
announcement, "It is estimated significant numbers of demonstrators will be present...Access to many areas of Naples, incluidng well-known tourist sites, may be closed to the general public...
Travelers scheduled to arrive or depart from Naples via train, ferry, cruise ship, or plane during the meeting period should confirm with their travel companies whether there have been changes in their travel arrangements...US citiziens should consider avoiding travel to Naples during the meeting period."

I'm wondering if Pompeii or Herculaneum Scavi will be open, even to bus groups.

From http://travel.state.gov/

"U.S. citizens, other than those with official duties related to the meeting, should consider avoiding travel to Naples during the meeting period (Sept 25-27). Those who must travel to Naples should exercise caution, avoid any crowds or demonstrations and monitor the local media to keep informed."
