Why are you talking about Avignon so much? If you are in Carcassonne, Toulouse is closer, isn't it? It's a major city and has a lot more flights than Avignon. Easyjet flies from TLS to Gatwick about 4 times a day for around 70-100 euro. It takes a couple hours I guess (one hour by the clock, but I think there is a time change, isn't there?).

kelsey22 Carcassonne is very cool. Absolutely worth making the time for. Definitely agree it only needs a half day (or cool idea to see it at night and then poke around and do the town in the morning before heading off somewhere else). If you are looking for other things in the area, I also really enjoyed Albi. Gorgeous little town to walk around and the Cathedral and Gardens are stunning. I only needed 3-4 hours in Albi as well but one could definitely spend more time

I've ridden that train dozens of times and never seen anything of that type. Your more likely to see soccer kids riding to practice, people commuting to work and tourists.>
So what if the thread ended in April - the title may bring folks of interest in the whole thing in and provide them valuable info.
It always gets me - who cares if someone tops and old thread - any thread can contain something useful to others interested in the same general topic.
Perhaps too much time on your hands?
