Avignon Hotels Colbert and Garlande

Has anyone stayed at these hotels? If so, I'd appreciate your thoughts. Are the rooms clean, quiet and a reasonable size, etc? Any other suggestions for Avignon hotels near the train station under $90 or so?

Jeff - Don't know about these two hotels, but definitely check out Expedia. They have some good rates for the Cloitre St. Louis (very close to the train station)and the Horloge (farther away), around that range. I will be staying in Avignon at the Horloge in two weeks and can give you my input then.

Jeff,

We stayed at Hotel Garlande last May. The location was great, but I would say the hotel was a little run down. Some fresh paint and new carpet would go a long way.

I had looked at the pictures on the internet and my expectations were higher based on those (I know, not a smart thing to do). Our room was quite small, very small bathroom. We could hear the people in the room next to us, as well as the street sweepers early in the morning.

But, the price was very good and probably fit the accomodations. We walked to the train station from there to pick up our car, an easy walk for us.

Mariarosa....how was your stay at the Horlage? I'm considering it for my visit to Avignon next year. If you've posted about this hotel elsewhere, please direct me. Thanks.

The Horloge was fine. It has some features that we don't need in a hotel (e.g., elevator and breakfast room), but it does make shlepping bags easier.

The room had a nice bathroom (with tub, I hate showers) and separate wc. Nice big TV - we would watch the French news while getting dressed.

Hotel was at capacity the day that we arrived with an American high school kids tour group . Thankfully, they did not stay long. The hotel is large enough that it can accomodate tourgroups - keep that in mind.

Our room was small, but comparable to other hotels we have stayed at, but we requested a room with 1 double bed. I think rooms with 2 beds were a little larger.

Housekeeping was erratic. They did not clean our room at all 1 of the 5 days and forgot to bring us towels 1 night. We had to do w/out towels that evening because housekeeping was gone, and there was only 1 person at the front desk, who could not leave it until after her shift was done at 11 PM to get the towels from the closet. Well, we went to sleep and went downstairs to get our towels the next morning. So, it had the size of a larger hotel, but certainly not the amount of staff.

Overall, it was great value for its wonderful location (right on/off the Pl. de l'Horloge). If I were to get the same rate, I would stay there again ($300 for 6 nights for two people w/out breakfast). There's a wonderful cafe on the square that gives you a nice continental breakfast for 5 €
