Availability of rental vehicle for 6

We are three couples all over 70 planning a trip to the UK and Portugal may 2020. We are wanting to rent a vehicle for part of our timein the UK, we plan to take a train from Edinburg to York and then York to London. We plan to travel by car/van from Porto to the Algarve and end our 24 vacation days in Lisbon. We're looking for recommendations for vehicle rentals. Very aware this might be a difficult feat. Thanks in advance for your best advice.

Car Rentals

Check out Auto Europe (https://www.autoeurope.com) and its sister company Kemwel (https://www.kemwel.com). They are brokers with excellent deals. For 6 adults, you'll need a 7 to 9 passenger Mercedes Viano or equal. The come with an automatic or manual transmission.

Upper age limit set by the rental company may be an issue in UK, but not so much in Portugal.

In similar situation, we have rented two cars. Easier to deal with in smaller towns, old city centers.

I don't think there is an upper age limit in any European country. At least that was back a few years, when I was only 85.

And it offers more flexibilty if you don't all want to do the same thing.
Some car hire companies do have an upper age limit of 70 or 75, some offices (usually franchises) may have different rules than the main company, and it varies from country to country. You need to make absolutely sure that they will accept you, and have it in writing if possible.
You will need an IDP for everyone driving, for Portugal.

Thank you!

Thanks so much for all of your great advice. We actually have one person under 69 so we might have our chauffeur. It works out to be cheaper to rent two cars in UK but might have issues with the age of the second driver. We'll definitely check it out before leaving home and will try to get it all in writing.
