autoeurope - pay now??!!

I have a pretty decent price on a car rental through autoeurope next July for 2 weeks. However they want to put the charge on my credit card right now. Most of my car rental experience has been to pay for it when I pick up the car. Autoeurope says they will fully refund if I need to cancel/change. Do you folks pay this far in advance for your car rental and is this standard practice?? Thanks.

I think that this is standard practice for AutoEurope. We rented cars from them last fall in Germany and England. For one country we had to pay half ahead of time, and for the other, we had to pay the full price.

Ivy, yes we have used Autoeurope and paid all up front twice. However if you call them back and they can find a better price(sale) they will pass the savings on to you. I call once every couple of weeks to see if my rental price has decreased, but traveling during the high summer season it only seems to be increasing. They really do have some of the best rates going. Book now, while they still have cars available.

Last year we prepaid several AutoEurope rentals this far in advance, but don't they give you a special price --10% to prepay?

Hertz also does a pre-pay option. It saves a significant amount of money.

If you pre-pay part and pay some when you get there the change in exchange rate may affect your price. Auto-Europe will refund any money that you lose this way. I've used them 5 times and been very happy every time.

Maeve

I had prepaid for a midsize car for 10 days in Greece, on my 3rd day in Athens I had to fly home due a family medical emergency.
I contacted them later at home to cancel, I was charged for 1 day, _rightly so_, because I was within 24hrs of pick-up. The remaining refund was credited to my CC with just that simple phone call. HTH Regards, Walter
