auto europe car insurance - Italy

I am renting a car through Auto Europe in Sicily and Tuscany. As I read over the insurance policy- I have zero deductible on collision and theft - I found this one line which says "insurance not valid for single party accidents". I called and they said this is all that was available. Will I be able to purchase additional insurance at the rental agency in Italy which will cover single party accidents? Has anyone else seen this on their policy. Any information would be greatly appreciated. We are leaving for Italy in one week and I don't know how to handle this.

Check with your credit card company - you should be covered under their policy, in most cases.

Please note that even if the credit card insurance covers a car rental, it may NOT covered SUVs/special vehicles/mini-vans, etc.... Make sure you tell your CC rep the type of car you are renting.

We thought our credit card would cover us as well, but Italy is one of the few western European countries where coverage is excluded.

Credit cards don't seem to like countries with beginning with "I". Mine does not offer insurance for rentals in Ireland, Italy and Israel.

Already talked with Master card and they don't cover unless I decline collision insurance which of course you cannot do in Italy.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I switched to a different rental car which covers everything - but at a higher price.

The problem in Italy with using your Plat M/C is that they require you to decline the insurance, which Italy refuses -- You must take the insurance.

On the other hand, I asked M/C about renting in Switzerland and driving in Italy. They told me I would be covered if "I declined the CDW insurance" when I rented the car. It's saving me several hundred $$$ on my 2-week trip.

What agency offers the besst quality cars in Sicily. I have gotten quotes form Hertz, Eurocar, and Autoeurope thewy all seem to have competitve rates but the fleets seem way varied. We are looking for a compact sports car with manual transmission

Any words of wisdom out there we need to pick up and drop at the Catania airport. We have one week left to make our decision and would appreciate any feed back ASAP
Thanks
