August in Greece-Restaurants open?
I was browsing around a few websites aobut many restaurants we would like to visit while we're in Greece in August. HOWEVER, they all pretty much say that they are closed on Sundays and in August?!! Can that be? Do most restaurants close for August there? Where are we going to eat?! HELP! Part of the reason we want to go there is for the food!
Thanks!

we were in Greece two summers ago and can state unequivocally that the restaurants were plentiful, wonderful, and open in August. we were in athens, santorini, paros (absolute paradise) and mykonos -- no problem eating whatsoever. probably should have eaten much less. The only trouble with august is that all of europe goes to greece for vacation, or so it seemed.

Hi, Ang
August is the height of the tourist season in Greece, so you will see lots and lots of restaurants that are open.
The point is, that August is also the peak holiday season for Greek people, so many Athenians close their businesses and return to the island they were born, for a holiday. Therefore, if you have a specific restaurant in mind (in Athens) you may find that it is closed.
But plenty of others will be open. No way are you going to starve, whether you go to Athens or to the islands. As long as there is tourist money to be spent, there will be Greek restauranteurs ready to take it off you!
Have a great time!
