We will also be in Germany next week. We arrive Friday at 7am and leave Tuesday afternoon.
The weather IS looking quite cold and snowy... I thought February was supposed to be one of the most dry months?? Hmmmmm.

Have you been to Germany in the winter before? This is our first time traveling off season. I've been trying to nail down winter hours at restaurants and main sights but haven't had a lot of luck. If you have been before during low season, what has been your ecperience with winter hours?

Hi Jill, I am completely empathetic with you with respect to the weather! I have been in Colorado much of the winter where the temp in my neighborhood dipped as low as minus 24 (farenheit!). But for the last few weeks I've been in SF and yesterday it was in the 70's!

I've never been in Germany in the winter, although I've been in other (cold) parts of Europe. My daughter is studying in Germany this year and I'm visiting her. Her advice is the 20s and 30s in Germany is colder than zero in Keystone. Go figure. I think because it's so dry in Colorado.

I think we will be lucky if we get snow; less so if we get icy rain. Lorna tells me all the normal stuff will be open; we'll just want to be indoors mostly.

Where will you be? I'll be in Heidelberg the 11th to the 14th and in Tubingen until the 17th.

Wow, small world! We live just north of Denver, Colorado. The winters are very nice here... even if it is cold, it is dry and it is usually sunny.

We are going to spend one day around Wurzburg seeing the Residenz, Marienburg Fortress, Dom Kilian, and the Juliusspital winery.

Then we have 2 days to spend around Rothenburg and Dinkelsbuhl (mid-section of the Romantic Road).

We spend our last day in Bamberg.

I was hoping it wouldn't be too cold because even though we will have a rental car, I think we will wish to do quite a bit of walking in each town. I guess we will plan on bringing ski coats instead of fashionable (but not nearly as warm!!) leather coats.
Trying to recollect, it seems that most of the main sights in the towns we will be visiting are fairly close together so perhaps we will just rush from heated sight to heated sight

Heidelberg is a lovely town. I spent a few days there right after graduating from grad school back in 2002. I bet it is beautiful all snow-covered!

How funny! We'll you're one up on me. All my cold weather clothes are in Keystone. This was an impromptu trip. United e-fares this week were just too low to pass up.

We leave Thursday as well. It is our first Valentine's Day as a married couple so we wanted to "do it up right"

Congratulations Texas. Mine is almost 43. My J. is going to cook a cassolet for me on Valentine's Day.
