ATM in Italy

I know that Cirrus is common in Italy. What I want to know is PLUS just as common?

Our ATM card (Huntington Bank) has Plus on it & we did not have any problems in Rome & Venice in Oct/Nov '06; only places we went in Italy.

Have fun, Julie

Hi J,

>...is PLUS just as common?

I don't know, but we used cards linked to one or the other when we were there.

Make sure you let your bank know where you will be traveling or you may find your account blocked if charges come in from abroad and they suspect there may be fraud. Also, you will probably need a four-digit PIN. Take care of both and you'll be fine. There are plenty of PLUS-linked ATMs.

You'll be hard pressed to find an ATM IME anywhere in Europe that does not have PLUS or CIRRUS plastered on it.

I agree with the above, and yes Plus is a Visa logo and Cirrus is a Master Card logo. Unless I'm wrong, there is an agreement between Visa and Mastercard that any network in Europe operated by one WILL accept the other.

Well, my Cirrus card did not work in a small town near Salzburg, but my plus did.

And my Cirrus card worked in a Rome ATM one day and wouldn't another. And more than once I've had a card refused, put it back in and it accepted it. I'm not sure that with the state of Italian ATM's, that's necessarily an argument that both cards "shouldn't" have worked.
