Athens to Mykonos - Ferry or Flight
Hi,
Our flight arrives at 10:30am from NYC.
Should we take a flight on Aegean Airlines - 5:45pm Athens to Mykonos arrive 6:20pm for $68 euros?
or go to Rafina port and catch a ferry? How much would that cost? And by what time do u think we will reach Mykonos if we take that route?
Thanks.

Thanks for your quick reply. I am trying to not waste the day. If I take the evening flight I will be spending hours at the airport.
I just checked the ferry schedule and it leaves at 4:00pm.

So I can just head to Rafina and eat lunch there, catch the ferry and enjoy the night at Mykonos. And I won't make any booking for either the bus to Rafina or the ferry from Rafina to Mykonos.Arrive May 16th.

This is the only direct one so far: http://www.ferries.gr/hfd
Take note of the no-sail Wednesdays.
You can also take the morning 10am ferry from Mykonos to Paros to catch the Blue Star car ferry at noon when it stop on its way from Athens to Santorini.

The 4pm ferry from Rafina would be a good choice. If, for any reason, it doesn't run, you have two other ferries for backup later that afternoon.
Two ways to get from Mykonos to Santorini:
1. http://www.ferries.gr/hfd/default.htm (note the 20 May no-sail day).
2. SeaJet 2, 10am, Mykonos-Paros; Blue Star, 12noon, Paros-Santorini.

Do you know how much time it takes from Mykonos to Santorini through the direct ferry on May 18th? Should I buy the tickets now, or should I wait for better options to open up and buy them upon arrival? Thanks.

Sorry about that...I did look, but I found it a bit confusing. Thanks for the clarity.
Also, upon reading your previous suggestions on the forums, I am planning on staying in Strogillia House in Oia. They are charging 150 euros. I was wondering if you could suggest something similar. I've spent the say calling hotels, and this is the only one available in my budget.
What do you think of Filotera Villas? I can't decide between the two. Please help. Thanks.

Filotera is a good choice and is closer in to the village square. Also have a look at Lauda Hotel.

Hi - I considering if I should take a flight from Athens to Mykonos. The only flight that makes sense for me to take is the Olympic Airlines flight at 12:35pm. My flight from NYC arrives at 10:20am.
1) Are there two airports in Athens, or do all domestic and international flights leave from the same place?
2)The flight will cost me 218 euros for 2 people and will be in Mykonos by 1pm
while the ferry will be 92 euros and we will reach Mykonons by 6pm.
Is the 5 hrs. extra worth the 120 extra euros? Also, do you think I will be cutting it too short with a flight gap of 2 hrs.
I am sooo confused on this one. Thanks.

Take a ferry, no matter the time or cost. (It most certainly would be cheaper than a puddlejump from ATH) - Hydra is so close to Athens - from Rafina. And there is no better way to arrive on an idyllic Greek isle than the slow boat. Chuck the dolphin and take the old geezer chugger. Slow down... let Greek time take over.

All flights depart from the same airport.
Check Athens Airways for cheaper flights.

2 hours is generally just enough time as long as your incoming flight is on time.

Only you can decide whether five hours on Mykonos is worth an extra €126. The first hour will be taken up waiting for baggage and transfer to your hotel. After checking into the hotel you will have time for a quick trip to the beach, or a stroll around Mykonos Town.
