Athens hotel advice for late June trip: Pool or not?

Hello,

My partner and I (in our 40s) will be in Athens for 3-4 nights in late June, after traveling to Mykonos and Santorini. This will be our first trip to Greece, and we're interested in seeing the Acropolis and other top attractions. We were thinking that it would be hot and humid in late June, and that it would be nice to stay in a hotel with an outdoor pool to swim and sunbathe. However, it doesn't appear that there are many options in our budget (under $250/night) and close to the attractions (i.e. Syntagma Square and Plaka area). Can you comment or offer suggestions?

The other consideration is that we would prefer to stay in a hotel that has a lot of nearby dining options, that is safe to walk around in, even at night, and that is close to a Metro station (not planning on renting a car). We have heard that there are some interesting restaurants and nightlife in the Gazi area, but not sure we want to stay there since it sounds a bit sketchy.

Thanks!
ACC

I cant really help with a hotel suggestion but in general in European hotels in the centre dont have pools - space issues and old buildings etc. Usually they are farther out (or the ones in centre that do have them are quite expensive.)

Hopefully someone can help!

Check the Amalia Hotel. It's very close to Syntagma Square.

I don't know if you have looked at travelocity. You can list all hotels in Athens (by popularity), and see if they have a pool. I think the bigger hotels would have a pool like the Hilton or Marriott. But they may be over your budget.

I think that Intercontinental hotel is a very good option for you. First of all, it does not exceed your budget. Secondly, it has a great roof garden with a swimming pool and, trust me, you will forget that you are in the centre of Athens. Well, it is not situated very close to Syntagma square but it is less than 10 minutes away by taxi. There is a metro station (10 minutes walking away) and bus station just in front of the hotel. I think that the location ir really convenient and you can take that stops close to Plaka square(no more than 5 minutes away) from where you can walk to the Acropolis. Well, it would be really helpful if you could see all of them on a map. So, fill this address “Leoforos Syngrou 93, Nea Smyrni, Greece” on a google map and this will show you the location and the surroundings of it. You will also find rates for the hotel here
http://www.travel-guide-greece.com/h...tercontinental .
There are photos of the pool and the rooms too.

Hi; As qwovadis suggested, consider bidding. We bid on www.priceline.com/ and did get the InterContinental for $70 plus tax. However, on priceline bidding you don't know what hotel you will be getting. Plug in your dates. Start bidding at $50. You will then be able to check 'five star'. Keep in mind, if they accept your bid, that is when you will know what hotel and at that time they charge your CC.
