Athens, from Pireaus

I will be on a cruise that docks in Athens for a day. I would like to explore Athens independently. Is it safe to take the train to Athens? Is the train reliable? Which stop should I get off at in Central Athens to explore the city?
I am interested in the Acropolis, Patliament and the Plaka.

Thanks in advance.

You will take the Green Line train from the Piraeus Port Metro Station to the Monastiraki Metro Station, which puts you at the edge of the Plaka below the Parthenon. The Parliament Building is about 20 minutes' walk from Monastiraki, behind Syntagma Square. Here's a good map of Central Athens.

Hi

Please note it is a bit of a hike (30 minute walk?) from the cruise port to the metro though.
