Athens, Florence, Rome modern upscale hotels

I am having one heck of a time trying to find hotels for our trip to Italy/Greece in May. Fodors, trip advisor... I´ve been looking for a couple hours now and I am in need of some assistance (before my eyes start to cross).

I´m looking for hotels with good, central locations that are upscale but still in a reasonable budget (under $350/night). Since we are young, I would rather stay somewhere a little more modern, not as stuffy as some of the Starwood properties can be (they are lovely, no doubt, but not quite what we´re looking for this time around). Internet access is a must. We´ll be staying in Florence, Rome, and Athens this May.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi

In Rome maybe Hotel Capo d'Africa - http://www.hotelcapodafrica.com. Couldn't see anything about internet access. Ask the hotel to double check.

Hope this helps

Have you looked at www.venere.com? You can search each city by location and quality.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I have booked Hotel Savoy in Florence, but am still looking around for Rome (Hotel Capo D'Africa was booked!! Such a shame, it looked great) and Athens. hiphotels.com... what a cool website! Definitely what I'm looking for but unfortunatly not too many to choose from. Might just be the problem I'm going to run into. If it comes down to it, I'd rather a hotel with a good location. Back to searchin...

Two in Rome:

Here's a place right in the Centro Storico in a great neighborhood, charming, and a convenient walk to the sights. Their website is not frequently updated so CALL them and you'll probably get a "special offer". Either way, you'll likely get a better deal calling than through the website.

More luxurious and POSSIBLY within your budget is Hotel Ponte Sisto - also in the Centro Storico. Again, if there are no online specials for when you are there (there IS an Easter special rate on the website right now), then CALL and negotiate.

Good luck!

I feel your pain..but remember, the ONLY thing stuffy in any hotel is/are the people who stay there...I hope the Savoy won't be disappointing because it is in a great location.
