FYI:

James Bond: Casino Royale will be filming at Villa del Balbianello, Lake Como, at the end of May 2006 - same place where Star Wars 2 & 3 shot scenes for Naboo. Villa del Balbianello were the setting for the movie "A Month by the Lake".

Just love Como and Villa del Balbianello. My family and I own a time-share apartment in Consiglio di Rumo. We will be going there for a week starting October 2nd.

When I did a semester in Italy, myself and one other student rented scooters and drove from Florence to the house from "Much Ado About Nothing". The gardener let us in and we took pics all over. I was so excited. I love that movie just because it reminds me of when I had the best time of my life going to school in Tuscany.

Cinema Paradiso is my favourite movie of all times! I particularly enjoy the last scene when he is watching the film Alfredo left for him - those marvelous movie kisses! I cry like a baby...

IFC has been playing a lot of Rossellini's masterpiece--Open City

It stars Anna Magnani and it is based on the life of WWII resistance fighter and priest Don Pietro Pelligrini.

Rosellini completed filming Open City before the Allies liberated Rome. I like this movie because it offers a window into the desperate situation of the Italians before Allied liberation.

This film is pivotal in that it marks the beginning of the film movement, neorealismo. Neorealism style is very natural and spontaneous. Neorealism eventually spawned the French film movement cinema verite which helped inspire modern independent filmmaking.

Other great classical Italian movies:
Paisan
La Paura, Viaggio in Italia & Stromboli (all with Ingrid Bergman)
Bicycle Thief

I just watched Come September this morning. What a cute movie - and great scenery!

I had never seen the cast members in a movie before. Rock Hudson, Gina Lollabrigida, Sandra Dee, Bobby Darin, Joel Grey. Yes, it's true. But now I have. I guess I will have to look up more movies with members of this cast.
