We leave for Italy in about 1 month and would love to watch some good "family friendly" movies or documentaries about Italy. Do you have some good recommendations for us? Thanks for your help!

The Talented Mr. Ripley isn't exactly a warm and fuzzy movie, but it's got scenes in Rome, Venice, San Remo and Mangiabello (sp? which I've never heard of, but it's quite beautiful).

"Summertime" with Katherine Hepburn and Rossano Brazzi, which they say was really a tourist promo for Venice.

Bread and Tulips and The Italian Job for views of Venice. I love The Agony and the Ecstacy and if you're lucky enough to see this along with a special short film of Florence that was filmed as an epilogue or prologue-wow.

CINEMA PARADISO! My favorite movie of all time. It won the oscar for best foreign film in 90,91 or 92. And the music is to die for. I'm not sure, but I imagine it probably won awards also. If it didn't it should. You MUST rent it, and you will thank me.

Not family friendly, but "Heaven" with Cate Blanchett and Giovanni Ribisi is beautifully shot in Tuscany. And don't forget to check out the bonus material - with more shots of the Tuscan hills. Absolutely stunning.

And for one of the most erotic shot of Portofino, watch the 2nd story in "Beyond the Clouds" when John Malkovich meets Sophie Marceau.

My favorite has always been the B movie from the 60's - "Rome Adventure". I love to hear Emilio Pericoli sing "Al Di La" in it!

The Godfather, Part II - utterly rapturous over the romantic and charming Sicilian countryside, and captivated by the portrayal of quaint folk customs.

La Strada, Fellini 8 1/2, The tree of Wooden clogs.

Has anyone seen "Inside the Tuscan Hills" which was aired on PBS? Unfortunately it did not air in my area. I was hoping to see it and then purchase the video, if I liked it.

Any suggestions where I might find the video to rent?
