Aschaffenburg
My husband was stationed in Aschaffenburg with the U.S. Army in 1959 and 1960. We plan to visit there in September '07. Is there anything left of the Army Base? What might we see connected with the U. S. Army?
Thanks for your help.

Hi Joan2! My sister and I will be in Aschaffenburg on Monday the 3rd of September for a few days!
My father was in the Army and we were stationed there from 1977-1979. From what I understand, most of the buildings have been turned over to the Germans, but there are still some that were retained by the U.S. Army (if memory serves correct). We plan to visit the area we lived in to see how it's changed and to just refamiliarize ourselves with the area.

Nearly everything was turned over to the Germans in 92. The last few buildings are scheduled to be turned over during the course of this calendar year.
Heidelberg is about an hour away and is still home to US Army HQ..... Security is tight though and unless your husband is an ID card holder, you won't be able to get on post without being signed in by someone.

trafaelwyr--after your trip in September please post any info about Aschaffenburg you think I may be interested in. We will be there about September 25 or 26. Thanks.
Thanks to all who have posted info. It's appreciated. Joan2
