Global Entry Renewal

Every now and then, government efficiency impresses me, and today it was the Customs and Border patrol people.
When booking a trip a couple of weeks ago, I realized that my Global entry would be expiring before I left (mis-October, so went online to renew.
At first I thought it would be a major pain; they have completely changed the web sit and I had to re-register. It turned out to be pretty easy. I applied on Friday, September 14 and got an email saying I'd been approved -with no interview required- on Monday Sept 17.
I got my new card in the mail today (Sep 24). Ten days total, including transit in the mail!

The only two confusing items were:
1) The approval email said I'd been approved without an interview, but then noted I was unable to renew it until my birthday (the day it expired). I wasn't sure what that involved.
2) Today, to activate the card, I had to log in and enter my security code. They show a picture of the card as an example, but didn't highlight or circle the code. It turned out to be the three digits following the "SC" that looked like part of my account number. I'm assuming this will kick in on my renewal date without further action, but I'll check back then.

Lucy, thanks for reporting on your experience. I just looked at my global entry card and I'll need to renew next year. It's great to hear that it was so easy and efficient!

It expires 5 years after your next birthday following approval so it's at least 5 years but could be longer depending on the amount of time between approval and your birthday. Neither my husband nor I had to re-interview.

Renewal was very easy and quick for us also - no re-interview necessary.
