Help, just got back from Paris and still recovering and don't want to repeat that experience. Going to try London this weekend and have a hotel off the Kings Cross station and told it is the ladies of the night home. Is this true and what tube stations should we avoid. May have time to get new accommodations if this was a mistake. <BR>Don't recommend Duplex Station in Paris. <BR>Thanks <BR> <BR>

Kings Cross is hardly the most attractive art of central London, and it does have a reputation for prostitution and drug dealing. I wouldn't say the tube station was any more risky than anywhere else in London as its usually busy throughout the day and night. Dont think you'll have any real problems there, but if you want a 'nicer' place to stay, try nearby Bloomsbury or even Kensington. Avoid Paddington - its just as bad for prostituion.

'A Local' is right - King's Cross is a bit sleazy, but it's not particularly dangerous. I would try to stay somewhere else not on safety grounds but just because it's not very attractive.

I would not stay near Kings Cross,it is very sleezy at night. I have been to London many times and very often am out and about on my own at night, Kings Cross is the one place I feel very unsafe. Unfortunately I have to change trains at Kings Cross to get to St. Albans where my daughter lives and often when the underground passage is closed I have to walk over ground to get to my connection, it's scary. Even my daughter who is normally fearless won't walk that area on her own at night. I hope you manage to find a hotel in a nicer area. Please tell us about your Paris experience. Good luck.

<BR>I spent a week alone in London in May and took the tube everywhere, day and night and never felt unsafe. Areas around the stations weren't always well lit, but usually there were lots of other people and tourists around. <BR> <BR>I stayed at a hostel right next to the British Museum and would highly recommend the area around Russell Square. <BR> <BR>The Russell Square station is probably a fifteen minute walk south of King's Cross on the Piccadilly Line. If your hotel is South of Kings Cross you might consider getting off at Russell Square if that's possible. <BR> <BR>Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the help. I considered the Russell Square option but considering everyone's input I just called a TA and got a Hilton by Holland Park. As far as Paris I've been told I could sell our story as a movie script LOL. Can't get into it now as I'm using a pocket HP with a 2 x 5 inch screen while in Europe and paying by the minute.
