Artists at Sacre Cour

Does anybody know if there are just certain days in Montmartre that the artists are displaying their art work as well as creating new pieces. Any information would be appreciated as I am here in Paris and trying to set my schedule. Last time here picked up two fabulous painting from there. Thanks.

If you consider them to be artists, yes, they are there 365 days a year. Actual contents of Place du Tertre may vary from day to day.

They're there all the time - except at night or in a blizzard. Agree that most of the works are not ART - but some are quite pleasant if you're looking for an inexpensive souvenir.

Yes, there should be artists at the Place du Tertre most of the day and evening (at least, that was the case in April). Any folks, please, not all artists are famous or "respectable" or inclined to paint or draw in a manner that you personally find acceptable. Tastes differ, and vive la difference!

I think the same snobbish negativity was directed at Van Gogh and Picasso, was it not?

Make sure it is original, I saw some of the same pictures that one of the galleries was selling, on ebay. The one of the Eastern girl with the haunting green eyes, now I see it everywhere.

Poke around and you may find a really good unknown artist, I did.

That's what I meant in my original remark. Some of the people there are not actually painting but selling things painted elsewhere by other painters. But they are pretending to be the artist.

Thanks for your replys. Maybe I was lucky but the art work I bought I was there when the artist finished it and I have enjoyed it and the memories that go with it. Will see if I am that lucky this year.

DH and I also bought some lovely art work in Place du Tertre from a woman in 2000 and have enjoyed them all these years. We went back last month and she was still there!! And she remembered us and the paintings we bought. So, of course, we bought three more. You can find some good artists there.

I agree. In 2001 we bought 2 paintings there. We watched as one was finished. Earlier this month we were back, and I bought another to coordinate with the earlier ones.

MsDonrae:

"art is the eye of the beholder"...if you like it, buy it, hang it and enjoy it...let those who criticize buy, hang and enjoy their own...
