Argrigento
I have about 12 days to spend in Sicily ( we'll have a car) in early June. Should we spend 2 days in Argrigento? Is there another village nearby that you would suggest? We do have three full days in Palermo booked, but that's it so far.
Have been to Taoromina. NOt planning to return.

Just spent 10 days in Sicily. the following is my trip report
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34712930
there are lots of threads on this site re Sicily. I think one day is plenty. So much Sicily to see. Bobthenavigoator has some suggested itinerarys for 7, 10 or 14 days
Where else do you want to see and what have you already seen you don;t need to see again? We liked our itinerary though if I had 4 more days I would have stayed in either Erice or Trapini a night, I would have stayed in Monreale a night, would have stayed in more hill towns

I was in Sicily in October. I think a day is enough to see Agrigento. I enjoyed the ruins at Selinunte and Segeste far more.
If it is any help, my trip report is at www.microbes.plus.com/sicily2005.htm

We had 2 weeks in Sicily in Sept/Oct and really liked Lipari, one of the islands north of Milazzo. Easy ferry ride to get there, lovely island pace with lots of good places to eat. You can visit the other islands from there, like Stromboli which has an active volcano and Vulcano which has thermal mud pools.
We did a day tour to Agrigento and to see the mosaics near Piazza Armerina. We were a bit disappointed with Agrigento but thought the mosaics were fabulous. If I had that day over again, I'd skip Agrigento and spend hours at the mosaics.

I've been to Agrigento twice, each time for 2 nights so as to have a full day's sightseeing, & would recommend it. The town itself is nothing special but last time we stayed a couple of miles outside at the Foresteria Baglio Della Luna Hotel which was nice and had great food. If you have a car I'd recommend it.
I think the temples there are good - most people especially the coach parties don't seem to walk all the way along the main ridge and don't visit the area on the other side of the road at all, so I've not found it crowded once away from the car park. Also don't miss the Hellenistic Roman Quarter, & the museum is quite good too.
Our itinerary last time was Taormina 3 nights (3rd visit), Siracusa 2 nights, outside Ragusa 1 night, Piazza Armerina visited en route to Agrigento (2 nights), Palermo 7 nights. I thought Ragusa was a waste of a night but a week in Palermo was only just enough & I want to go back.

I agree with Caroline. Also stayed at the Baglio della Luna, and had a room with a window that looked out to the Concord temple (in the distance). Depending on how much driving you like to do, you could just spend one night and still feel satisfied with the visit.
If you haven't seen the mosaics at Piazza Armerina, I would second the recommendation to visit them.
We enjoyed Trapani, Erice, also Cefalu, and the Madonie mountains and Polizzi Generosa, Tindari (more roman mosaics).
