Arezzo Antique Faire
We're thinking of stopping in Arrezzo for one night to get an early start on the Saturday antique faire. Has anyone attended the faire? Was it worth the visit? Any hotels to recommend? Thanks Greatly.

Hi rocco
We attended the fair last summer. There are lots of vendors going up the hill towards the Piazza Grande and all around the town. It is definately worth a stop. Some stuff is junk and some nice. Up in the Piazza some vendors sell furniture.
We stayed in Chiusi at Villa Il Patriarca so I don't have any hotel info in Arezzo. Have fun!

Has anyone gotten a definitive answer to whether the antiques fair is also held on Sunday? Everything I find says only that it is held on the Saturday before the first Sunday. Please refer me to a resource to answer this question if you can.

Here is the Antique's Faire home page:
http://www.arezzofieraantiquaria.com/web/home.php#
Their graphic image fades in and out but it says, "ogni prima domenica del mese e sabato che la precede", every first Sunday and the Saturday that precedes it. At the bottom left there is a tab for the 2004 schedule (calendario). Maybe we'll see you there.

Is it worth the visit? That's hard to say. It was for me. I really enjoyed wandering among the stalls spread throughout the historic center of town, but as in any market, some of the stuff being sold is good, some isn't. Many of the dealers move on a regular basis from fair to fair around Tuscany and Umbria, so you might run into other, less well-known antique fairs elsewhere.
If you want to actually see Arezzo and its architecture, the fair weekend might not be the best choice as the streets are jammed.
We stayed at the Hotel Continentale, a decent place only a block or two from the train station and the same distance from the edge of the fair area.

My husband & I attended the antique faire 2 years ago and will be going again this year. It's great fun! It is for the weekend, Sat. & Sun. We stayed in a no name hotel, just basic and it was fine. Our car was parked for 2 days and we just walked. They do have some nice interesting antiques of which we purchased many! The venders are fun.
