Areas near Amsterdam to travel to?

We are trying to plan a trip for 12 days- at least 6 days of which to spend in Amsterdam. Any ideas for where we could spend the other 6? Willing to fly (short flights). Was initially thinking of adding Ireland to the trip but feel 6 days won't be enough there. Open to all suggestions!

We are young and enjoy partying as much as we enjoy sight seeing. A nice mixture of both would be great!

Thanks so much!

If it were me (and I wish it were) I would pull up flight options from AMS using a variety of booking engines like www.skyscanner.net , www.opodo.com and www.travelocity.com

Skyscanner lets you choose to search from AMS to anywhere, within a month. If you see the options, at nice prices, you could get inspired to follow your fascinations.

Based upon your original post, it sounds like you are flexible enough to enjoy ANYwhere magnificently. If price is a big factor, look at flights, choose a nice-lookng place (using VirtualTourist or Lonely Planet to narrow interests and allures down), then pull the trigger!

Transavia is a budget airline that flies from AMS.See what they offer although I would stay in the Netherlands myself, following poster alterEgo's suggested itinerary.

When are you guys planning on going?

If you check vueling.com, you guys may be able to score cheap flights to Spain (Barcelona, Madrid, Seville). I've only been to Barcelona but there's definitely more than enough sightseeing and partying to do there for 6 days.

Or you can take a couple hour train ride from AMS to Brussels (mmm beer!), although not sure you'd want to spend all 6 days in Brussels.

A couple years ago we did a Belgium/Netherlands combo trip over about 14 days. It was a lot of fun. In Belgium we visited Brussels and Bruges.

on november_moon's note: if you decide to go that route, be sure to watch In Bruges with Colin Ferrell before you go
