By "American" do you mean a U.S. citizen? Or perhaps anyone who lives in the U.S.? Latin Americans I know tend to bristle at the use of American to refer only to people from the U.S. That said, there really isn't a great substitute. In Spanish its "estadounidense" but United Statesian doesn't really work, does it?
Interesting that you seem to suggest that advice from an "American" on traveling to Europe would be inferior to the advice of a European. Or are you simply looking for a balance between advice from Europeans and non-Europeans? And does it really matter? It seems most inquirers welcome advice and nuggets of knowledge from anyone who has something to offer and a polite tone.

PalQ, yep I'm busted.
I'm not Swiss although I do tend to sit in neutral a lot, now that gas is $3/ gal.
I'm a Scots-American (in that I'm Scottish born and bred, speak with a Scottish accent but permanently reside in the USA).
/prefers smoked Gouda

Oh, that absolutely makes Fodors great. I just don't believe the good advice comes only from someone who lives in the place asked about. It can come from someone who has traveled there, whether they are European or not. As an example, I recently traveled to San Antonio, Texas, for business. I could tell you more about hotel options in San Antonio right now that my home city.
For me, the real beauty of the board is that you can get great, useful information from all sides. Anyone who reads the Spanish board with regularity knows that there are Spaniards like Cova and Americans like Maribel who have provided excellent advice to anyone who asks. Both are excellent sources of information.

Grüezi mitenand üs schöner Schwiizerland!
Just don't ask me about any limited Swiss train passes. I have my Halbtax (valid for next 3 years) and the kids have their Juniorkarte. Haven't used anything else.
Tschüss zama!
