Though most of us limit ourselves (well almost) to things we sort of know about.

Which doesn't include hotels near where we live, how to get the best Oyster Card deal if you're only here for three days, or how to get incomprehensible games played by American colleges no-one's ever heard of* when everyone's watching Have I Got News For You?

Which is why we're often a bit backward coming forward.

*Yes, I know Jed Bartlett went to Notre Dame. Or was it Leo McGarry? Or CJ? But that's fiction!

Sadly.

Ah good news ... I was starting to get a bit weary that people from our continent had in fact disappeared.

>Which is why we're often a bit backward coming forward.

Ahh ... you are British ... can tell that certain I don't know what about you, your good manners and your dry sense of humour.

Raises a glass good man. Lets hear more from the Europeans about Europe. I will be looking on with great anticipation to see if any other Europeans sign in and with what amazing rapor they do so with!

Visitingnow Aug 22nd, 2006 09:49 AM

Ah yes ... indeed. The question that I must ask now is ... are you a fan of deep fried pizza? I gotta get up to see the land of Scots again soon ... all this deep fried cuisine was not so well known when I last visited!

What makes Fodors so great is the European input from folks intimately familiar with things like local transport, hotels, restos, sights, etc.
There are especially many Brits and i've learned so much from them - not so much about practical travel details but cultural questions, etc.
There seem to be a smattering of Germans, Swiss and French - of course language barrier lessens the numbers of these.
And Aussies, New Zealanders, etc.
A regular United Nations of posters, though the bulk of course are Americans (Canadians/Canadiens and Yanks)

Visitingnow Aug 22nd, 2006 10:38 AM

Ahhh yes .. and a welcome hello as the mists clear to the snow covered peaks in Switzerland. A warm place by the fire to the wonderful forests and mountains of Bavaria.

I only wish all of it could be in one place sometimes. Here in the UK we have a great mixture of terrain. The Yorkshire dales roll on not unlike a smaller version of Tuscany. The peak district rises high and mighty but not so high and mighty as the Alps. The lake district spans wide with natural beauty but not quite so wide and clear as the Mediterranean.

Europe has so much to see . whats in your backyard today?

A Scottish Swiss! That's as full of holes as Swiss Cheese! Single malt or blended cheese?
