Apt Rental in Paris allorenta.com or Paris Sweet HOme
Just wondering if anyone has used allorenta.com or Paris Sweet Home to rent apartments in Paris...Shouldn't there be a Rental agreement/contract that needs to be signed when the deposit is made...or am i crazy

We used Allorenta to get an apartment a 2 week stay. To make a long story short, the first appartment we booked was not available after we booked it, but we were able to book another right before we arrived.
In the confusion, we wound up having to pay the appartment owner as well as Allorenta the same agancy fee (about 250 Euros) with a promise that we would get that back upon leaving. Allorenta requires payment via a bank transfer to a Swiss bank account. But they have no phone number to store front in France.
In the end, I neber got back the money as promised andI was out the extra 250 Euros. My emails (the only way to contact Allorenta) were largely ignored. This was 6 months ago.
So if I had to do it all over again, I'd likely choose another provider.

We have already booked an apartment with Paris Perfect and it was very easy but we still have our concerns with the whole process. I don't think we saved any money but traveling with elderly parents renting an apartment makes this a good choice. We have some thoughts about what happens if we cancel and deposit returns etc. but i guess we have to wing it. Most people here advised that you ask lots of questions and use a reputable rental agency. We put the apartment on a credit card so that has some recourse as well. my question is trip insurance for our elderly parents. My wife's concern is repatriation and who covers that? If someone has some thoughts please let me know.

This report results on disadvantages in our side, in fact there is no such a case.

mauzer - Yes, there should be a rental agreement and deposit paid upon signing of the contract. Well, this is what we have done. The owner required 350euros transfered to their bank account and we will pay the balance of 350 euros in cash when we get the keys and move in.
I must say, the owners I am dealing with are really fantastic.
This will be the first time we have rented and are looking forward to the experience.

frankdaddy, you need to check the terms of various insurance policies to see if they cover repatriation, that's all. Didn't you buy any insurance for your parents and yourself to cover health and other things? That was a mistake, as all of the ones I've seen won't cover preexisting conditions after a short time from when you've made your first payment on things (apt. or airfare, whatever). It sounds like that was a while ago for you, and if so, that is really unfortunate. If you paid the first of your outlays within the last week or two, you should buy such insurance immediately and find one with a term within that time frame to cover preexisting conditions (some are 2-3 weeks).
When you say repatriation, do you mean if someone dies? Because medical evacuation is easy to find coverage for, lots of policies cover that (as well as stand-alone ones like www.medjet.com). Now lots of policies may include repatriation in their medical evacuation coverage, I'm not sure as I haven't been that concerned about that to check them out. I know Travelex includes repatriation as part of their medical evacuation limits, so that is certainly a good possibilty as they are a well=priced good policy, in any case. My experience with Allorenta was very good. After I paid a deposit, they sent me a confirmation through email 5 minutes later with the details of the apartment in Alésia area. I got in touch with the landlord to arrange the arrival time. Upon arrival, I paid the balance to the landlord. And that's all. My wife and I spent a marvellous holiday in Paris. I used Allorenta following a recommendation from a friend of mines who also had used their services.

This whole episode re allorenta is just too weird. Who has even <i>heard</i> of Allorenta. This is the only thread that mentions the company in at least the last 3 years . . . .

No, I'm still here and still waiting for resolution to the matter. They sent me a few emails about a month ago with promises to get me my money back and then .. nothing.
For those of you who haven't heard of Allorenta, they also go by the name of "Paris Sweet Home".

we used paris sweet home to book our 2month stay in paris for fall 2012. securing the apartment through email was very easy and i thought the folks at paris sweet home were very helpful. i knew paris sweet home and allorenta were one and the same company through our emails.
i had some difficulty getting through to the owner and it wasn't until i emailed allorenta to say "why isn't the owner responding?" that i finally got a response from said owner. all our subsequent emails were friendly, but it was a bit difficult to get answers to simple questions from her. this should have been my first clue.
we got to the apartment. it was as promised - if the promise had been made 6-7 years ago. the place had never been dusted and the floors had never been washed (our feet were blackened after walking bare-foot on the floor). all the dishes and glasses were chipped . I had to spend about 30min scrubbing one of the pans before I felt safe cooking in it. The one sheet provided was torn and so threadbare you could see the mattress beneath. And speaking of the mattress - it was stained and had to be about 15 years old - it was so old the manufacturers iron-on tag at the bottom was shredded and unreadable. The apartment advertised a clothes washer AND dryer. There was no dryer. The bathroom, at least, was clean. However the jets on the fancy tub were corroded and spewed out a fetid, brown liquid when I turned them on. Also the apartment above leaked into our bathtub.
We sent an email to the owner and allorenta asking for a refund due to the terrible condition of the apartment. The owner proved to be extremely erratic and basically said, "since you don't like the place you can leave at the end of the first month and I'll refund you the second month." then the owner and I embarked on a massive email exchange, with me cc'ing allorenta on each of my replies. I NEVER HEARD A WORD FROM ALLORENTA. I thought the owner and I had finally come to an understanding that we would just stay put (we tried to find alternate housing for our second month but were unsuccessful) but then the owner emailed saying we had to leave because she had booked another party for the first week of our second month since she thought we were leaving. At last allorenta contacted me to write that they had received word the apartment was booked so we had to leave and here were some suggested new apartments. At this point we called allorenta and spoke to someone pleasant, but ineffectual as they never called us back. Meanwhile I sent yet another email to allorenta asking if we didn't have a financial contract in place with the owner and how could she double book when she hadn't returned any money to us and we hadn't agreed to leave? Allorenta finally responded to, essentially say, "oh yes, you're right. You do have a contract in place. We'll talk to the owner."
We never heard again from the owner and allorenta couldn't 100% confirm that a second booking wouldn't show up at our door so we were advised to stay in the apartment all day of the potential second booking "just in case."
And that was the last time I heard from them. I STONGLY advise everyone to STAY AWAY from allorenta and paris sweet home. They are not reliable, they are not on the side of the renter, they do not respond in any sort of helpful or timely manner. Even after our trip I sent a note saying that I hoped they would remove that landlord from their list of properties due to the problems we had experienced but I never got a response.
While in Paris we looked at places listed on Paris Attitude and even dropped by their office. They were very nice and offered many nice-looking apartments but were unfortunately unable to secure one for us. We will be returning to Paris in the future and will definitely look at Paris Attitude; a friend of mine booked through them at my advice and loved the apartment she secured and enjoyed the process of working with Paris Attitude. Also airbnb.com has lots of great options and there's no middle-man; no extra fees to pay to the rental agency.
