Apt/Cottage Rentals

My husband and I are planning a trip to Germany for late March, early April 2008. One option we have talked about is renting an apartment, cottage, etc. to stay in for the week and a half we will be there. We would like somewhere that is outside Munich but has train transportation into the city center for the days we want to see Munich. We would also like it to have a kitchen and cooking utensils so that we can cook our own meals on occasion. Can anyone recommend a city, apartment, or company who does this type of thing?

Thanks!

Not exactly what you're looking for but maybe of interest is the Untours' Bavarian offering: www.untours.com/reg.asp?RID=334

Just a few questions to possibly narrow it down a bit:
Does outside Munich mean that you just want to get away from the city center and that a "green" suburb or village was okay?
Or did you think of a more rural place in the foothills of the Alps, i.e. further away from Munich?
Will you have a car to go from your cottage to the next train station, or does it have to be in walking distance?

Unfortunately, these vacations rentals don't have a central website you could check.
www.vacationvillas.net is just a first idea to get started. Once you clicked your way through "Germany" and "Holiday Homes in Bavaria" you will find a few (and really only a few) in Munich and its surrounding counties of Upper Bavaria.

If you already know in which region you will like to stay, it will be easier to point you in the right direction webwise.

We will have a rental car. Any of the suburbs will be fine. We just like staying outside the main area since we'll have a car to get around. I just didn't even know what cities I should try and look at or if some of the apt finding websites for this were reputable.

If anyone can suggest an area to base ourselves in outside of Munich that would be great too. Like I said we'll have a rental car so getting around won't be an issue. Right now we are planning on seeing southern Germany, probably taking a day trip to Salzburg via the train and driving down into Switzerland.

Thanks for all the help!
