Thanks for topping this thread. We can never get enough of people "ranting" so we better top the old rants.

You're welcome.
Do you realy consider this a rant? too bad, it may help some people see the other side of the refund coin, when they are cancelling for their own comfort levels, and have no regard for the people they are putting in a disadvantageous position

Joeg--Methinks you are easily appalled.Being" just a traveler", one would think that you would be sympathetic to those making plans and paying in advance-then when there are warnings for people to be careful, not to put themselves into harms way-so they try to cancel and then do not get their money back---this is appalling? What might be appalling is the airlines continuing to fly with empty planes, then telling travelers who call, that as long as they are flying-you have to fly or lose your money-Alitalia, airline of the newest country with a travelers warning, is flying as scheduled, today...and not giving any refunds.Tour groups,airlines,yes- they all need the money to stay in business, but there is such a thing as ethics-good business practice-when they see the human side before the bottom line. Why do you see this as so unfair to the travel companies? Why not to the travelers? Hotels will not keep deposits if canceled within a day or so, only the airlines and the tour companies are being hard ** about it-why does this seem so shocking to you? Are you sure you are not in the travel industry? Or are you just too easily appalled?

I Agree with the first poster. YOU are making the choice not to fly, travel or otherwise go. I read the Italy warning today and it was NOT a cancellation of travel notice.

Quit whining. Do what you want to do, just don't expect special treatment unless you have special circumstances. Fear is not a special circumstance, people all over the world live with it daily!

Not a cancellation of travel notice? Do you have to wait until someone tells you do not travel before you get the idea? Telling you that American interests in Italy are in danger, that Americans are in danger, isn't enough to make you wonder if this trip is a good idea, you need someone to personally call you and explain things to you?
I think you people are not really travelers, and you are sitting at home in the suburbs and being so self- righteous because you don't go anywhere anyway.
I think that this post is ridiculous and I am just as ridiculous for getting involved with it - Ta!

I also will remain anonymous too! Appalled??? I am appalled that someone would use a travel board to relieve their financial and employment woes and bully people or insult people who don't want to travel because of the events of Sept. 11th along with the threats being issued against US Citizens every day according to every newspaper or tv channel you happen to read or watch - attack the ones causing the fear - and leave the scared travelers alone....Bullies!

The world is not a safe or peaceful place, it has not been for many years. We are only beginning to realize it because now we have been attacked in our homeland. did you refuse to travel to OK , there was a terror attack there. Get real, life is to be lived. If you are not comfortable traveling don't, but those of us who are, get off our backs. We don't expect special favors. Just read the German govt. warnings about travel to Florida.. they have been in place for 3 years!
Go or stay home, but why you all want others to side with you escapes me. It is our lives that we may or may not be putting at risk what the hell business is it of yours.
