It´s a fabulous apartment.

You should at least know that Paris has recently started a crack down on illegal apartment rentals, those rented for a duration of fewer than 12 months. This might be the owners primary residence and he/she may only be renting it for a period not to exceed 4 months per year. If that is the case, then you will have little to risk. Otherwise, it could removed from the short term rental market by the city on relatively short notice (which has and is happening to an increasing number of apartments found on sites such as Airbnb and others).

I would approach short term apartment rentals in Paris with great caution.

We have stayed in this apartment TWICE , it is WONDERFUL and the owners and apartment manager are GREAT to deal with. I have several pictures of the apartment if you would like them. Additionally, the pictures do represent the apartment. We have stayed there with 4 adults, no problem with showers or space. The washer and dryer are great. The neighborhood is wonderful, Rue Rambuteau just around the corner has great shops, for food. I would definitely stay there again. I would not worry about the legal issues, they are working it out in France.

Just curious denmal, who is working out the legal issues in Paris?

It does look great.

As for legality, you could always ask the owners, of course, that would be the easiest. It looks like an investment apt, so it may not be legal, although you never know. Maybe they just removed any personal belongings for the photo and the calendar just happens to be completely open (a sign that no one really lives there) as they work around that.

I know you may feel that's tacky and could offend them, but you could ask it in an indirect way -- something like you've heard a lot in the news about the new laws regarding vacation apt rentals in Paris, has this affected them? or something like that, and see what they say.

Read this and saw that Airbnb and the Mayor of Paris came to an agreement therefore thought it was easy some concerns

That was one issue, the nonpayment of taxes. The other issue is that the rental itself has to follow certain rules to be allowed (people aren't supposed to just buy places to rent out for vacations except for some conditions which I forget--involves some investment of some other kind of property). So just collecting the tax alone was just one issue.

But that's a good point, I guess you could ask if they were collecting the taxe de sejour, and see what they say. In fact it should be itemized in the cost estimate, like a hotel does. If it isn't and they just claim they pay it, you wouldn't know.

Christina is correct; Airbnb has finally decided to start collecting and paying the taxe de séjour for which they have been liable for some time. However, the legality, or illegality of an apartment rental itself is a separate issue. The trend has been to force owners to remove properties, from the short term rental market, which are not operated within the law.

It´s unlikely that an owner is going to be completely honest with you and tell you that they are operating illegally. There is an increasing number of vacationers, who think that they have secured accommodations for their planned vacations in Paris, who find that the rentals they had arranged have been removed from the vacation rental market.

With any rental in Paris, I would have an alternate plan in mind in the event that Plan A is annulled and the property, which had been reserved, is no longer available.
