My husband and I are traveling with another couple to Europe next September and while I'm still in the planning stages, I'm planning 4 nights in Paris. I thought for the price of two hotel rooms or so it might be possible to get an apartment. We want to stay in maybe District 1, 5 or 6 and am hoping for $300 or less per night. Do any of you know if this is possible or any agencies that rent for less than a week?

All are priced per night, and are available for short stays of less than a week. We had a very good experience renting from this company.

Many properties rent for less than a week, though you usually pay a slightly higher per night rate and sometimes an additional cleaning fee. You may find something for about the cost of two hotel rooms, but I'd be concerned about having only one bathroom and would look for a place with 2 baths - not always easy to come by at a decent price. Try www.vrbo.com where you can sort by number of baths.

If you are willing to pay up to $300 a night, you shouldn't have much trouble finding a nice two bedroom apartment.

Since apartments, through owners and agencies, charge more for less than a week or in some cases two weeks, maybe the extra money for one whole week will be the same as for only four nights, after you do the math. They can't force you to stay the entire week - but Paris is soooooo tempting.

A good site to check is VRBO.com. You deal directly with the owners, and sometimes through their emails or phone conversations, you can get a feel for them and possibly their apartments. The listings have a full description of the units, along with pictures and amenities, plus usually a calendar with availability.

Once you make a choice, no matter which route you go, come back here with the address and see if anyone is familiar with the unit.

As you may know, or will find out when trying to book, September is a very popular month in Paris, trade shows, tourists, etc... and places can be hard to find if you wait too long to book.


The 7th is also a nice area.

Thank you all so much for your replies. I am having a great time looking at these webpages and I'm thinking an apartment would be great. I know most hotels are very small, and with an apartment we could spend time in the evening or a have a little down time with our friends in a living area. While I'd like to have two bathrooms, I think we would do with one. Some have 1 and a half baths, which would be perfect.

I will definitely come back here and see if anyone knows anything about the apartments I'm seriously looking at. It is a little unnerving picking something from a few pictures and info on the web, although most have phone numbers or e-mails to contact the owners.

I am staying in Vacation in Paris apt #125 on rue Saint Honore next week for 3 nights ($200/nt). I'll post commetary in a couple of weeks. I have also used . Also Rentparis.com has a lovely large apartment at 20 rue Chapon that can be rented fr a short stay (this one books early, so go for it sooner rather than later if it interests you)

I didn't even see #125 when I was looking. It seems really nice, a great location. And I'd love to have a balcony. Any chance you could e-mail when you get back and let me know how you liked it? CRose, #125 is very ;ovely and although small in square feet, with ot's 14 feet ceilings it feels luxurios for a city apartment. The bedroom is lovely, with a firm bed and the pull at sofa is convenient as well. This is a find. I just realized you are two couples. Another apartment that you would also enjoy is the two bedroom duplex at Palais Royal rent by www.vactioninparis.com. The location can not be beat based on your desire and there are two comfortable bedrooms. The apartment is on 3 floors, kitchen and half bath in the basement, living room at street level (with doors that open to the garden) and the upper floor is the 2 bedrooms and bath.... perhaps the only draw back is a narrow stairway on the interior..... getting giant sized luggage up stairs could be tough....I am not sure about minimum rental with the company, but it does not hurt to ask.

It appears they have updated their site and added units. The one that I mentioned is now the 2 bedroom triplex.

While I am sure you can find something for that relatively high price (Citadines would do it--one right on the Seine with a view of Notre DAme) the "hassle" for that time just seems daunting to me.
For that price you can stay in a 4* hotel and have amenities and probably a wonderful view.

Alas, the Palais Royal apartment is already rented for our time. I looked at your other recommendation as well. It looks lovely. But their minimal rental is a week. It might be a little out of our price range. I am looking at two apartments through Paris Holiday Apartments. They seem really nice to work with and the Palais Royal apartment seems to be with them now. Anyway, I'm going to post another topic asking for info but what do you think about these two? Reasonable and seem to be nice, light and airy. The one bedroom I like because of the terrace, but the two bedroom would give us a little more room to relax in the evening or whatever. Any comments?

Gretchen, I did check out the Citadines. If all 4 of us stayed there for four nights in a one bedroom with pullout in the living room, which I could be very happy with, the cost would be 1260E, or about $1638. That's over $400 a night. If we go two smaller rooms, the price would even be higher. For a one bedroom apartment with a terrace we could pay $832. For a two bedroom it would be $1014 for the four days. Those both include washers and dryers, which is nice as we will have been traveling a week or so already. Granted, they're not rooms with a view, but they are in the 1st District close to the river and allow 11 a.m., check in. Thanks for your reply.

I would go with the two bedroom. Your point is valid about the balcony, but take note that the 1 bedroom is a "one window/french door" apartment. That tells me it will be a narrow, "shot gun style" space. The two windows suggest a wider more open feeeling apartment. Haussman standardized Paris buildings and youc an pretty much predict what a space will feel like based on floor and windows....And besides than you don't have to decide who gets the bedroom.

For a short stay do the hotel thing or the apt hotel (citadines ect). As a North American read the sq meters carefully for an apt..many of them are very sm by NA..you may not have the room you think you do. standards.
