Thomas,

You might want to do a search on "London Apartments". There are several suggestions out there. We are considering Oxbridge Apartments...do a search on the web. London is full of apartments for rent at a wide range of prices!

Check out www.barclayweb.com. We have rented apts via them twice in South Kensington/Chelsea area. They are reliable and easy to get info from via their website and email.

I stayed in the Nell Gwynne apts (they have a website) on Sloane Ave. in Chelsea. The concierges were very helpful. The location was great.

We just returned from a stay in the Somerset Roland Garden Apartments in the S. Kensington/Chelsea area. We booked them through a special on the British Airways website, and were pleased with the location and accommodations.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Will followup. The flats we stayed in the past no longer take short term lets.We liked Ovington Square area and Egerton Gardens area. So we are starting over with some success. We love London equally with Paris. Cheerio

Hi...

Check out this site:

http://www.londonservicedapartments.co.uk/index.htm

and check out there "economy" selection!!! Though we never wound up using an apartment in London on this last trip like we had originally planned, I was very pleased with the contact I had at this place...his name is Roy! I have been doing the "self-catering" route for a number of years!!!
Good luck!!!

You might also have a look at Sandra Gustafson's books on London hotels. (She used to do a series called "Cheap Sleeps in ..." but I think the most recent edition has a different name.) She has extensive listings for hotels, apartments and "alternative accommodation" (eg university residences etc). She provides very detailed descriptions of the hotels/flats (sometimes room by room for the smaller places).

I will add my favorite flat rental agency www.manors.co.uk
Our flat (1 bedroom also) was in South Kensington, right off Brompton Road on a quiet cul de sac.
Tube station was a couple of blocks away, many shops and restaurants, the V&A..great spot!
Have fun!

Scarlett: Bet we stayed in same flat! Queensgate at Manson Place. just off Old Brompton.
It was owned by Manors but we got it via Barclay. Fine apt. and in a favorite location. We had booked a 1BR and were upgraded to 2BR.

YES! that is exactly the building!
Manson Place..it was a nice building wasn't it? I loved coming back to the flat with food from Harrods and pretending I lived there~
How cool that they upgraded you!
Did you get the limo that they provide? LOL, that was a hoot, this small man in a suit met us at Heathrow-carried our bags, walked out to the limo parking area. There was the longest Volvo stretch limo I have ever seen, actually the FIRST Volvo limo I had ever seen. Blacked out windows and all

Try www.parisperfect.com. They mainly have paris apartments but have a flat in London that they rent. It looks lovely on their web site and I can vouch for their web site as we rented Cabernet from them in Paris and it looked jsut like the pixs on the web. They are a delight to work with. We were extremely pleased with everything.

Scarlett: No, we missed the thrill of the little man with the Volvo limo. Came in on the Gatwick Express and cab to apt. We have stayed in this neighborhood 3 times now and it seems more like living in London when one stays in a flat.

This past March we stayed at the flat provided by www.londonperfect.com - the same people who run www.parisperfect.com.

It's on Launceston Place which is a few blocks north of the Gloucester Road Tube so it is in the area you desire. The price has increased since we stayed there and is in the higher range of your budget. The flat is honestly portrayed on the website.

Another flat we used (May 2002) - much cheaper - at 65 pounds per night was through www.holidayrentals.co.uk - if you look through their London listings you'll find it. Good for two people but not exactly in your desired location - it's about two blocks north of the Marble Arch tube stop. We felt it was a very good value and would stay there again.

Good luck!

I'll second the suggestion to look at Oxbridge Apts. We have a reservation there for Sept. It was recommended by a couple of other posters on this site (if you do a search for "oxbridge" the comments should come up.)

They don't look fancy, but the price is good and it's in the neighborhood you're looking for. The website is:

Good luck,
Jennie
