Hi All..

Need your help yet again . . I've been also trying to decide if I want to spend a night in Rothenburg Germany. Who has been there and is it worth more than just a few hours stay? I could do a Romantic Road tour and see Rothenburg that way or just stay there for a night. Let me know what you think. Thanks for your help!

I've spent a couple of days there a few times. I much prefer it after about 5pm when all the tourbuses leave. It's a really cool town to wander around, lots of good shopping and has a few cool museums. I guess it depends how much time you have? If you can spare a night, I'd recommend spending a night there.

If you have the time it is worthwhile. Thr crowds go down at night and it is much queiter.

This site will take you to a webcam to check the action at the main square in Rothenburg 24/7. I visited this square on a day it was packed. It sure looks lovely when the crowds are gone.

I would stay the night. There is a neat Night Watchman's tour that begins about 7 or 8pm (in May, anyway - it's still plenty light out). You should really try to catch it. We stayed at the Burg Hotel & it was very nice.

Rothenburg is great - except on Saturday. Wall to wall people. I recently stayed at the Golden Griffin Gasthoff. Right near market square, great rooms and nice proprietors.

I would most definitely stay in Rothenburg for one night (no more). I've been twice (live in Germany now). I've stayed twice with an older couple who rents out rooms in their home for 22Euro/PP. You will not be disappointed with them! The lady is hilarious (older) and cooks a HUGE breakfast in the morning. They live within a 5-minute walking distance of the wall and she'll pick you up and return you to trains if needed. Anyhow, their site is http://www.haus-karin.de/. I was a little weirded out at first by this type of arrangement but it was GREAT. She even offers free water and beer.
