Claire,
I did an article on the Museo Picasso when it first opened and the fact is that the collection was Picasso's PERSONAL collection that he didn't want to part with, so it's really not that it "didn't make the cut." Of course I haven't been to the Museum in Paris in many years, but will be there next spring before Barcelona, so we'll have to meet for tapas and continue this conversation at that time, right?
flycatcher,
Why not let your girlfriend go to the museum and you can go see the Gaudi architecture--this way you both get what you want. Believe me, I'm a huge Picasso fan, but if I only had one day in Barcelona, I'd rather go to Casa Mila and Parc Guell than the Picasso Museum there. Infact, I'd take the Miro Museum over the Picasso, but I haven't been to the Contemporary yet and DD said it was awesome (plus Claire will be there.)

artlover- we are on. I had forgotten that the collection in Málaga was his personal one, but now that you remind me, it makes sense that it has a more personal feel. Have you seen Paloma's foundation in Lausanne? I have not, but my ex went to the inauguration and got a really beautiful short publication on the collection and the mission statement. I think it is an interesting project and would really like to go. In fact, though I am not the biggest Picasso fan, I have always wanted to do a Picasso tour, doing Málaga, Barcelona, Antibes, Lausanne, Paris, then on to New York.
My kind of fun, indeed!

Claire,
I didn't know about the Palamo's foundation, but will have to goggle it. I've "followed" Picasso and am an avid fan, largely because I have so much respect for his vision and politics (certainly not the way he treated women!).
Another cite for Picasso lovers is Chateau Musee de Vallauris near Nice. We wandered into it and WOW--it was amazing to be in the chapel--like stepping into a Picasso mural!
Oh dear, I wasn't planning on it, but now I may just have to include Lausanne in a trip someday.
And yes, we will get together and talk about art (and other things) in Barcelona!
