wish I had read this before booking an apartment in Paris......Craigs List should be held accountable in some way.
Now no booking and $550 bucks gone west but what annoys me is that the place i went to to send the money put the form in front of me and the warning on the back was not pointed out.....why probably they would have missed out on the $50 dollar fee.

There are so many wonderful apartments in Paris from owners and managers that are top notch, why even put yourself through the worry. If you are concerned on the very planning stages you may be worried the entire trip. I have always thought Craig's list is scary and I assure they won't be responsible, there is a long list of people that would like to hold them accountable for far worse.

Seems like a scam..if one legitimate site says it's 500 Euro a day and the craigslist site says it 115 Euro then something is seriously wrong
There are some many legit sites I don't kow why you'd bother with Craigaslist. Try Vacation in Paris, Perfectly Paris or VRBO

We've rented several apts. throughout Europe, and the legit procedure has always been the same, no matter what means you use to find the apt (and we've always had good results):
-- Deposit via credit card (which can be revoked by calling the CC company and informing them if there's a scam). Often, the rental agent will not charge your CC for the deposit, but will just hold the CC info in case you're a no-show, and they want their deposit.
-- Full payment in cash upon arrival and inspection of the apartment. Granted, it's not the best situation to arrive and find out the apt. is a dump, meaning you have to find other accommodations, but it beats the hell out of getting scammed. Some agencies and owners will take payment over the course of a few days, to allow you to withdraw increments from an ATM.
If you find an apartment you like, suggest you do a Google search on the apt. and check tripadvisor.com for a review of vacation rental apts. If it seems fishy, walk away. Lots of legit apartments out there, so there's no need to obsess over one.

moivory - how much money have you budgeted for a week stay in apartment? I looked at the apartment via the other link posted and, as nice as it looks, there are other apartments out there and for considerably less. The Craigslist listing would not be the way to go for myself if I were looking to rent an apartment.
