Anyone been to Paignton or Brixham?

We were just wondering if anyone has been to Paignton or Brixham in England? If so, any advice on where to stay (cheap would be helpful), the best way to get from one to the other, what we should see, etc?

Thanks,
Swee

Paignton is a family seaside resort with lots of hotels and B&Bs.
Brixham is a fishing port with a much longer history and is more picturesque, though I think there are more appealing places in Devon and Cornwall.
There are frequent buses between Paignton and Brixham. In summer, there are also boats between Paignton Harbour and Brixham, weather permitting.
Paignton has a railway station, with trains to Newton Abbot, Exeter, Bristol, London, etc. An adjacent station has steam trains to Kingswear for Dartmouth (www.paignton-steamrailway.co.uk).

"cheap would be helpful" Cheap means different things to different people. What is your budget?

Approx US$100 per night (less if possible) will work for us.

Thanks!

How many people are going. The cheaper B&Bs charge around £25 per person per night.

What time of year are you going? This is a very popular holiday area and by all accounts a lot of British are staying at home this year due to the strong euro and general economic downturn. Come the summer it will be crowded.

I recommend the South Hams area to the south of Paignton, viz Dartmouth, Salcombe etc.

There are 3 of us (my husband, my father-in-law, and me), and we are actually heading over in a week.

sweehart: $100 is only about £51 -- that is not much for a triple room anywhere in the the UK. And especially not in/around Torbay.

We would be booking 2 rooms - one for us and one for my father-in-law.

OK - you need to clarify. Do you mean $100 in total, $100 per room, or $100 per person??
