Anyone Been to Blois, France

Thinking of doing a day trip from Paris to this town on the Loire to visit the chateaux and the town itself. Wondering if this is feasible and worthwhile to get a little taste of something different from Paris. Looking for scenery and quaint interesting place to stroll around. Thanks. Any other suggestions for a day trip from Paris would be appreciated as well. (Aside from Versaille, Fontainbleu and Giverny)

I have nothing of information because we only spend one night in Blois but it brought back memeries. My late husband and I were in W, Frsnce in the Vendee At Sables d'Olonne, a very popular seaside resort with the French. While dining out one night at a local seaside cafe was a huge family party seating next to us. We were engaged in conversation. The head of that table said he ran a hotel in Blois called La Maison. He sent us over Irish coffees. The next year we were in Provence again but it was so hot that year that my husband couldn't stand it. So I said, Let's go to Blois where we met that family.
We did go and luckily had a room for us, he remembered us and sent us a glass of Champagne. How I miss my life with my husband.

Yes, I've been to Blois. It's a medium sized town with a beautiful chateau and some ambience. There is also a cool chateau about 10 km south in Cheverny that is probably worth a cab ride if public tranport is not available. If you've been to the other places then Blois is an interesting destination. There are other places I might take a day trip from Paris to before Blois. Rheims for example. I like gothic architecture and champagne!

I spent three nights in Blois, using it as a base to tour the Loire Valley. I loved the place!!! As mentioned earlier, great Chateau with a wonderful old church nearby. Exploring the walls outside the chateau, there are great views of medieval old part of town. It was just beautiful, the old buildings and the cobble-stoned streets. Plenty of shopping, great scenery, I really liked the place.

Personally, if I was going to take a day-trip outside of Paris, I would return to Rouen. Great Cathedral (at least Monet liked it), scenic old town, on the Seine, and lots of Joan of Arc history.

I thought it was a very charming town, in fact I like it better than Amboise (sp? sorry too lazy to check my spelling). It is built along the river, good shopping and a good town to wander around (a bit hilly, which made me fall in love with it even more).

May I recommend L' Orange du Chateau for lunch, we had an excellent meal.

Have a great time in France.

Cig, hugs

Blois is a sizable town (versus the tiny villages in which many chateaux are located), and while the chateau is interesting there's not a lot of scenery involved. IMHO many of the other chateaux are more interesting and located in villages or countryside - and have much prettier grounds.

Blois would certainly not be my first choice.

Yes, I've been to Blois many times, and though it's a very nice town with a great château, if I had only one daytrip to take out of Paris, it wouldn't be my first choice. I'd probably go to Chantilly and Senlis or Auvers-sur-Oise or Rouen.

I've been to Blois and though the Château is impressive, I found the town a bit dull. Like the others, I would suggest a day trip to Rouen instead which is very charming with a wonderful Cathedral.
