Any thoughts on Easter in Italy?
My itinerary is Rome, Amalfi Coast, Lipari Islands, and Sicily.

Is the Easter week period really difficult to get train & hotel reservations, are restaurants and shops & museums closed?

Is it perhaps not as hectic in a smaller area, such as Lipari?

Thank you for any tips!

I've never been to Italy during Easter week, but last year I did some preliminary research for a possible folklore-focused trip to Sicily during the week before Easter. I think it would be a fascinating time to go if you are interested in local folkways and celebrations. Just while very superficially researching the possibilities in Sicily, I found a lot of infomation about Holy Thursday and Good Friday processions that combine ancient pagan traditions with traditional religious traditions. In Sicily, some of the places that are particularly known for interesting processions and traditions during the week before Easter are Enna, Trapani and Piana degli Albanesi.
