Any suggestions for this itinerary?

Honeymoon in October:
2 nights in Venice (second day for day trips)
3 nights in the Cinque Terre
3 nights in Siena
2 nights in Florence
1 night in Venice (stop in Bologna on the way to Venice from Florence)

Any must see places during our trip?

Thanks for all yourhelp, this forum has been invaluable to me in my honeymoon planning (wich is a life saver on top of the stress i have panning the wedding!)

Unless you are going to Siena because you are more interested in Sienese art and architecture than any other, or have a fascination with the Palio, it's not the usual thing to choose 3 nights there over more in Firenze, which is densely packed with treasures. You can do Siena as a day trip out of Firenze and save yourself packing and unpcacking.

You might add a night to Venice at the beginning of your trip and stay four nights in Firenze, with a day trip to Siena.

Are you stopping in Bologna for lunch or some touristing? It's not a bad plan, but you might budget for a taxi to and from the Bologna train station just to keep things moving along. (You can stow your luggage at the station, but pay attention to the hours the luggage hold office is open.)

Have a great trip!

Siena is a great base from which to hop to other Tuscan hilltowns - San Gimi and a slew of others, all conveniently accessible by bus if sans car. I'd take a day off Cterre perhaps and put it in Florence. But maybe they are using CTerre at base from where they could day trip to Pisa or places on Italian Riviera like Portofino or SMLigure area.

Far too many places for the amount of time that you have.

You'll be exhausted from the wedding in any case, and running around madly is not going to give you the rest and the peace and quiet you will probably want.

I would reduce it to Venice, Florence and somewhere in a Tuscan hill town. The Cinque Terre may be quite an iffy proposition in October, depending on how early or late in October you will be going.

Fly into Venice, spend 4 nights (maybe with one day trip), go to some peaceful Tuscan hill town (Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza or, if your budget allows, to some fabulously relaxing place like the Locanda dell'Amorosa in Sinalunga) for 3 days, then to Florence for 4 days (with a day trip by bus to Siena), fly out of Florence or Pisa.

You could do it in a different order as well: Fly into Florence or Pisa, have your 3 days relaxation in the country, then Florence (with a day trip to Siena), then Venice (with one day trip0, fly out of Venice.

Flying open-jaw (into one city, out of another) only costs a little more than a straight return and saves you time and backtracking.

We actually used Siena as our "base" and did day trip to Florence, as well the places mentioned by PalQ. We visited the major sights in Florence on 2 days, with a "rest"day in between. Found Florence very crowded and Siena much more relaxing. .

Thanks for the advice! We are actually getting married on Sept. 23rd so we will have a few weeks of relaxation at home before we embark on our trip. We are easily bored and like adventure so we do not feel like we have planned too much, but we will take that into consideration. We really are looking forward to the CT though, so possibly we will take something else away?

I'd do the order this way:

Venice 1 night;
Florence 2 nights
CT 3 nights (2.5 hrs from Flo by train)
Siena 3 nights (go back to Flo, then express bus Flo-Siena 1 hr);
Venice 2 nights (again, express bus Siena to Flo; connect with fast train to Venice.) Forget the day trips - you won't have time, even on a quick trip.

PS if you want an overnight in San G, you can go by train CT-Empoli-Poggibonsi cab San G, then bus to Siena the next day for 2 nights. It's not necessarily any faster though, depending on schedule.

I'd forget the stop in Bologna.

I would steal a night in Cinque Terre and add it to Venice - two reasons: It is your honeymoon and Venice is incredibly romantic and it is October and it can be rainy and windy in CT. If it is, there isn't much to do; CT is an outdoors kind of place.

It is necessary to say that not *everybody* finds Venice romantic, although those who do find it incredible that others don't. Some honeymooners find the Italian seaside incredibly romantic.

I have spent some of the most delightful days of my life on the Ligurian coast in October, swimming in the Med. I think I was out of there by Oct 11, however, so if you are planning a late October trip and want to swim and hike, you may not get want you want.

Unfortunately, you just can't tell whether you'll prefer Florence to Venice or Siena to CT until you get there. They are all VERY different places. So the best thing to do is go with your instincts about what you think you will enjoy most.
