here's another vote for "pane e tulipani," "le fate ignoranti," and "il ciclone"

This is "Obsessed" with Cliff Robertson and Genevieve Bujold, set in New Orleans and Floreance. Made in 1976 by Brian DePalma.

This thread is so great I had to top it. I joined netflix.com, and a lot of these movies are available. One to watch out for on DVD is "Io Non Ho Paura," or "I'm not scared." From The New York Times website:

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
There are a few scenes from Venice, including the Campo San Barnaba church, just off the Ca' Rezzonico stop on the vaporetto. Peace.

Come September (Gina Lolobrigida and Rock Hudson) -- I don't think anyone has mentioned this one yet. I believe it's set in Milan and the Lake region. It's a silly, feel-good sort of movie that I have to stop and watch whenever it comes on TCM.

I saw "Non Ti Muovere" this weekend (Don't Move). Penelope Cruz is in it, and I heard that she learned Italian just for this role. It was very raw, and at sometimes odd movie. I really enjoyed it though.
There were a few scenes at Timoteo's (the main male character's) beach house that were beautiful, I wonder where they were shot?

I am going to Florence in November but a zillion years ago I saw an Italian film about a man who sold his brother to the Church to become a castrata - he throws goat turds at a Cardinal,and he is invited to dinner where he is served turds, the little brother runs away and the turd thrower is forced to take his brother's place. Does anyone know this movie? It was wonderful and I have never seen or heard of it again. Help Italian film buffs please.

I am not 100% certain, but I think you mean the film titled Farinelli subtitled "Il Castrato", about two Italian brothers, one of which is castrated and becomes a great tenor (or higher)
. I forget the name of the Dutch? actor who plays Handel. I also liked it quite a bit and was just going to post a recommendation as I have not seen it mentioned above.

Does anyone remember an Italian film about the government charging people to breath?
Apart from that brief synopsis, all I can remember is the leading man couldn't pay his bill, and was huffing and puffing his way into the government building.
I know it sounds crazy, but it really was a film, and I want to see if I can find it.
