Antwerp suffered severe damage from Nazi V-1 flying bombs in l944-l945. Yet it is still one of the most interesting places to visit. True, Bruges was undamaged and retains its medieval looks.

Most of the buildings in Antwerp are still as shown in the old pictures.
Thanks for posting these, Jeepeejee.

Antwerp is one of Europe's most overlooked cities IMO - has character, history, art, architecture (not all ancient - large grouping of Art Nouveau structures near Berchem train station and Middleheim Statue Park is one of the world's preemionent parks - some ultra famous works. Plus the old warehouses along the old port.

Bruges is worth a day - Antwerp could occupy several.

If anyone have some old pictures (before WW II) of Antwerp or monuments, streets and builings in Antwerp, and you wanna share them, please let me know. I'm looking for much more material to let grow this archive !
Thanks in advance.

I may have some more, from my late parents-in-law. I'll have to go through the pics they left us and will let you know in case I find something worthwhile.

Jeepeejee, I have gone through some of the boxes but so far all the pictures are family-related. No buildings or such. I know there must be some of Zurenborg where my late parents-in-law have lived just before WW2 and I 'see' a picture of them standing in front of what is now the Inno on the Meir but it's not in the boxes that are in our possession. I will ask my husband's siblings whenever we see them again.
