antipasta in Venice

Sorry, have missed this thread till now.
Bacari (attention, please: one bacaro, two or more bacari) are working the way ek has it. The are no antipasti bars of the "suec1" type in Venice.
Antipasti, true, derive from ante pasto, before the meal, but the term is always almost being used as a plural, antipasti. The singular is to be found in the regular waiter's question, per (also: come) antipasto, cosa vi porto?, literally: for/as a starter, what may I bring you? Otherwise, you'd always encounter (and use) the plural.
re: ante-, anti-, that's totally arbitrary in Italian. anti- can mean "contra", against, or "before", from Latin ante, as well, and without any hint of logic. But ante became also ante- in some vocables, and antidiluviano, (appunto, KT) is to be found as antediluviano, as well. Anticamera is anteroom, anticipare is anticipate (HA! antIcipate, you see? - English isn't that logical, either!), but anteprima is preview (of a movie, or a stage production).
Language, as my Latin teacher always put it in those old days, language isn't logical, it's psycho-logical.
The best cicchetti of Venice are certainly to be found at La Botte, I fully agree with ek.
