Sadly, I think it's starting all over again next week in Paris. I think last night's show was really amazing. I'm going to plan a trip to Kuala Lumpur now...doubt that I need to go up river though....but WOW what a cool place.

Nina66 - LOL!
We love this show - Tony cracks me up! I really like what he said at the end of last night's episode. Can't remember his exact words, but it was something about how the places you visit leave marks on you (emotionally and sometimes physically) and how you hope you have left your mark on them. There was more to it than just that - I can't remember what else he said, but I thought it was a great "why we travel" kind of quote...

Hello Fellow Bourdain lovers & Haters!
I love Tony! He's sarcastic, politcally incorrect, can cook and immerses himself in the culture he's visiting.
For those upset about the smoking (CMT: It sounded like you thought he was smoking while bending over the stove, which isn't the case).
But, as Sara said, if you've never worked in the food industry, you'd be shocked at what goes on behind the scenes!
Now, this is what's shocking to me -- he was also a heroin addict for a number of years.
SeaUrchin -- yeah, he reminds me of a few guys I went to high school with (especially the WALK) and many of them were named Tony as well!
I loved "A Cook's Tour" -- how can I not love a show that combines two of my favorite things - travel and food? My favorite episode was where he was in the Outback trying to make his way to Tetsunya's (upscale restaurant in Sydney) and they shot it ala "Mad Max".
And now this new series....
Sandi -- The Chairman? didn't he remind you of a gay version of the the guy on Iron Chef, the nut that bites into the pepper with that demonic look in his eye? I think they have the same tailor too!
In that episode his guide first described what they were eating as "a small woodland creature"....and now the infamous, SQUEEZEL. Believe me, the next time anything I can't identify is put down in front of me I know I'm going to look at it and think "squeezel"!

I guess I wouldn't get very far as a guest in some of these places. I couldn't bring myself to stab a pig. I would be considered more than rude I suppose.
But now I am expanding my addiction, my latest is on Discovery Channel, Going Native. I love that show too.

Loved the squeezel show! My son and I still get tears in our eyes from laughing about that. Love the show if only because it is so different from the processed cheese shows on foodtv. Sandra Lee? Puhleeze! How much cheese can you sqeeze(le) into one half hour? Yes Bourdain is a bit self absorbed. Pretentious? That iron crown belongs to Iron Chef America (speaking of a good laugh), and I actually like Batali and Brown. Definately not for prime time viewing, what with the trip to the club in Jersey. And Bourdain is no kids' role model, what with the chain smoking, hard drinking, potty mouth, but beat your chest, Tony, it's made for good tv so far.

Saw the Sicily episode -- nice to see the beautiful place, some very good historical background, and interesting interactions with the people. But even Tony seems to be getting sick of Tony. I think I'm not going to bother with the "Vegas" show -- too many opportunities to simultaneously deplore and celebrate dissipation. Borrrrring.
