Nikki, my guess is Cervejaria Ribadouro http://www.cervejariaribadouro.pt but I'm not sure. I'm not a huge fan of shelfish. My "cup of tea" are "the secrets of the black pig" in Gravatas/Carnide.
About the Anthony Bourdain show it's always interesting to see how others see you. I think that the Salazar thing is highly overrated, unless it is imprinted in the collective unconscious. If I want to look for more permanent influences of Portuguese mind set, I would rather look to the Inquisition or to the Myth of King Sebastian.
Funny enough, Carminho almost declaimed the poem "Portuguese Sea" ( http://www.litkicks.com/FernandoPessoa ) without giving Fernando Pessoa the credits, but as a Portuguese, it was easy for me to trace from where she picked up the speech (brides, waiting, mothers crying, etc).
After watching this I found "Anthony Bourdain in the Azores" in youtube too.

I thought it was Ramiro as well - there was a sign on the building - we are hoping to go there on our visit.

Thank you for posting that...just watched whkle here in Portugal. I am in love with the Portuguese people, comida, vino e campo so it was interesting to see this episode I missed....was again here in Portugal last Nov. We have owned a place in the south for over 26 years and long for our Portuguese "family" and friends when back in the US.

I found it interesting to see the difference in type of foods that were featured as compared to the south of Portugal. Our friends own a small restaurant and though closed to the public at lunch everyday a huge lunch is served to family and various friends (and we are lucky to be included among those friends). As there are several brothers in the family who are pescadores and the sister is in the kitchen cooking you can imagine how good the food is. We find that they feel that seafood (not fish) is quite expensive and for specail celebrations. Nonetheless I am always amazed at what they can do with some vegetables and beans or fish, tomatoes, olive oil and potaoes. I wonder why Tony Bourdain did not give the Portuguese bread any mo
