Anne Frank's chestnut tree

Anne Frank's chestnut tree (the one she could see from the window in het Achterhuis)is to be cut down next Wednesday (21 November). An attempt was made to save the tree but it is too sick and after recent strong winds is too dangerous to be left. Sad, but better than that it falls on someone.

It has had a stay of execution - until at least February next year.

Oh I hope they can do something. I was able to see it when we visited her house last March. It almost seems to qualify as a "witness" to their lives doesn't it?
