And Now for Something Really Important

From today's NYT

Ralph Lauren has opened a Paris restaurant featuring American-style food.

Ralph's "is situated in the chic cobbled courtyard and rustic dining room of the new Ralph Lauren store.............experience the designer's love of fresh seasonal American food......."

The ad in the NYT shows something that could be a Big Mac with bacon and a slice of American cheese.

173 Boul St Germaine, Paris

Fly to Paris, where you can get a real taste of America.

That restaurant has been a big hit since it opened, so I would not be so quick to knock his idea which, first and foremost, is about making money. I would also no be so quick to knock good American food these days. Not sure what is on the menu where you live, but we have some pretty decent dining in parts of the US these days! If we can have French restaurants in NY, why can't we have American restaurants in Paris. We even have young French chefs staging at restaurants in the US these days.

Somehow I doubt that Ralph's is serving Big Mac-style burgers with crappy cheese-food.

Expect to pay €40 to €75 for a meal and €23 to €35 for a hamburger.

The French love American food. There are actually a lot of American diners around Paris which are always packed.

Not only American food, but Ralph Lauren/Polo clothing is pretty ubiquitous in Paris.

There are plenty of French restaurants in the US; why not American places in France?
