London hotel ideas - for me and my parents

I'm planning to take my 70-something parents to London in the fall (probably mid-October) and I'm feeling a bit of a hotel dilemma. I would love to book us in a five star hotel (have stayed and and enjoyed the Lanesborough, the Mandarin, Claridge's, the Connaught). But my folks are more low key and I fear they would be put off by and/or not appreciate those kinds of places.

Is there a super charming, somewhat luxurious option, convenient for walking, that isn't pretentious or too froofy?

Would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you!!

Have a look at Brown's Hotel. It doesn't have the glitz of a luxury hotel but is extremely comfortable, with an excellent lounge for afternoon tea. The hotel is in a very good location as well.

An alternative: the Goring, close to Buckingham Palace. It was the first hotel in London to have a bathroom with every bedroom and has a nicely old-fashioned feel to it.

BTW, that's where Catherine Middleton and her family stayed the night before the royal wedding.

Also highly recommend The Goring, also St James Hotel & Club.

I like the Sofitel. Nice people, pleasant rooms and good location for a tourist.

Perhaps they would like something a bit more intimate rather than a big commercial setting. Look at Number Sixteen on Sumner Place. The area is great, good transport, walking distance to several museums, lots of cafes ,a short walk to King's Road. I love this hotel

I have friends who always stay at Number 16 and like it very much.

I like the Renaissance Chancery Court which is a great hotel, imo. It's just behind Holburn tube station.

Another vote for the St James Sofitel. You can walk from there to Picadilly, St. James Park,
Trafalger Square, etc., etc. If this should be your choice, avoid the breakfasts unless they're included. A nice alternative is the restaurant Inn the Park... just a little way across the street into St James Park.
(PS.... DH and I are 70+ somethings.)
