Amsterdam's Six Collection, featuring a major Rembrandt, is open again

I learned that the Six Collection, located in Amsterdam, is open to visitors again now that the building renovation is completed. It features, among other paintings, Rembrandt's famous portrait of the noted art patron Jan Six. The link below explains more about the Six Collection and can connect you to the collection website where you can make your formal visitor request.

I had never even heard about the Six Collection until I stumbled across it in a very old guidebook about a week ago. After googling it and finding the site you've linked I wrote and asked if we could see it (my husband and I will be Amsterdam for three days in March)—I received a speedy email telling us what day we could visit—I'm really looking forward to it.

wanderful, have you seen the collection?

outwest, what else have you found out about the collection (I looked at the website and there isn't much info). Do they charge admission?

No, I haven't seen the Six Collection. My first visit to Amsterdam will be this May. I didn't know anything about the collection until a week ago, and standard guidebooks (Frommer's, Fodor's Amsterdam's 25 Best, Rick Steves, for example), don't mention it at all. There is an old 2003 thread on this Forum that you can access if you type in "Six Collection Amsterdam." Reading the posts you sense that the collection was one of the better kept secrets back then as well.

I did come across the following 2007 article that gives you a good deal of detail about the art and the venue. Here it is:

yk — To be honest I don't know whether they charge admission. I received an email telling me when I could visit and it makes no mention of it so I'm assuming they won't. But, I'll have cash in case they do. I also found the 2007 article that wanderful sites—so that's all I know.

I'll be sure to write a report after our visit—

I just received notice from Baron J. Six van Hillegom (whoa!) that I can visit the Six Collection in early May. In my request, I asked if there was an admission fee. The question went unanswered.
The request form asked that I pick three possible admission days. My third choice is the day I'm going. That could signal that it's a tough ticket if you wait too long to make your request.

I have a feeling that they do not charge admission... I'll go ahead and email a request to them later this week. Thanks again for this info!
